Optics Recommendations for Your Safari

Our friends at Hawke Optics have taken the time to put together a list of items that they would recommend when traveling on safari. Quality binoculars and riflescopes are key to making sure you have a successful trip to the East Cape of South Africa. We love Hawke for their attention to detail, quality construction, fantastic customer service and great price points.

Binoculars

Frontier ED
If you want a binocular that is affordable and offers top-level performance, look no further than the Frontier ED. Using ED glass, image reproduction is stellar. The Frontier ED features phase corrected prisms for premium viewing, ensuring that image reproduction is crisp and correct.
Constructed of magnesium alloy, to be lightweight and durable, and using an open hinge design, the Frontier ED is a solid performer more than capable of helping you spot the trophy of a lifetime.
Endurance PC
If ED glass is not in your budget, don’t fear. There are many great options for binoculars that will serve you well.  The Endurance PC line offers a top hinge chassis constructed of the same magnesium alloy as the Frontier ED, but in a more compact and affordable design. Using Phase Corrected prisms, image quality is quite good, even without the ED glass.

All Hawke binoculars features lens covers, carry cases, neck straps, and lens cloths. They are fully multi-coated, waterproof, and nitrogen purged to be fog proof and are covered by our Hawke Lifetime Warranty.

Riflescopes

Eclipse 30 SF 4-16x50
For plains game you must be prepared to take shots out to 200 yards.  The Eclipse SF 30 gives you the ability to do so with confidence.

The Eclipse 30 SF features a 30mm mono-tube chassis, rather than traditional 1” tube. This allows for a larger erector tube assembly and lenses, and true 30mm optics. Additionally, the 30mm tube provides increased stability for the scope chassis under recoil. The chassis also uses a coil erector spring for maximum support of internals during recoil. Side focus parallax adjustment allows you to remove parallax error from 10 yards to infinity.

The 4-16 magnification range suits plains game hunting well, and isn’t likely to leave you needing magnification at ethical ranges on African plains game. The Mil-Dot reticle provides true mil-dot spacing on 10x and is fully customizable with our BRC software download or iPhone app.

Additionally, the center dot illuminates for those times in heavy shadows that your reticle may want to wash out.

Panorama EV 4-12x50
If you are looking for something a little bit lighter for your rifle, look no further than the 1” mono tube chassis of the Panorama EV. With red-blue illumination available for the, black-in-off position reticle, and a revolutionary optical system, this scope really has a great deal to offer.

In addition to reticle illumination, the scope also features our EV optical system. What this means to you is up to a 43% wider FOV than other scopes on the market. Because of the way the lenses have been designed and arranged, we are able to offer a dramatic improvement in your sight picture.  When tracking plains game through your scope, field of view is wildly important. Ensure that you are looking at the same animal your PH is by giving yourself every advantage you can.

You also have the option of selecting one of three reticles that suits you, your rifle and your rifle’s trajectory the best.  These reticles are also compatible with our free BRC software.
